An oval mirror in carved walnut. Rosettes run round the frame. The carving is water-gilded. The glass is bevelled.
Each frame takes 3 weeks to carve. Gilding is laid leaf by leaf. The glass is silvered in Lahore. The back is walnut, sealed.
It hangs above a console. It answers a chandelier across a hall. It carries a room's history.

Materials and finishes
- Pennsylvania walnut, chosen for cathedral grain. Oiled, it lightens to a warm honey.
- Solid brass, brushed to a soft satin. Waxed, it mellows slowly toward gold.
