Residence on the Canal
A family house on the Canal. Remade as a private gallery for 3 generations.
The brief
The client is a Lahore industrial family. 3 generations share the house. They wanted one home, not three. The Canal side was theirs first. Now it had to hold everyone.
The house is a 1990s build. Tall rooms, good bones, tired finishes. A double-height sitting room faces the water. Every finish had aged the same shade. Nothing held the eye.
The constraint was the family itself. Nobody moves out during works. We built in phases, room by room. Dust sheets became part of life. The programme ran 9 months.
The approach
The idea was a gallery of rooms. Each room holds one commissioned piece. Everything else is quiet around it. Walls went to a deep bronze plaster. Floors were relaid in American walnut.
The dining room carries the Heritage table. 10 seats in solid walnut, a brass line along the apron. The Heritage sideboard sits beneath a Meridian chandelier. In the sitting room, 2 Heritage wing chairs. A Solace sofa faces the Canal. The Solace rug ties the floor together.
Install took 11 days. Each piece arrived crated from our Lahore workshop. The chandelier was hung last, at dusk. The family ate at the table that night.
