A Private Office
A chairman's floor in Gulberg. Part office, part drawing room, entirely private.
The brief
The client chairs a Lahore textile group. Third generation, and the first to leave the mill. He wanted one floor for himself. Meetings, lunches, and quiet afternoons. Nothing corporate.
The building is a 1970s block in Gulberg. Low ceilings, deep plan, small windows. The floor had been open-plan. Grey carpet, grey partitions, fluorescent light.
The constraint was discretion. Visitors range from bankers to family. The office must serve both without changing. Staff work nearby but out of sight.
The approach
We planned the floor as a sequence of rooms. A reception, a study, a dining room, a lounge. Walnut panelling runs through all of them. Ceilings were dropped further and lit from the cove. Lower, but warmer, and suddenly generous.
The Ivory desk stands under the window. Pale oak top with a leather inlay, on turned legs. A Heritage display cabinet holds the family archive. The Noctis sideboard serves the dining room. 2 Heritage wing chairs face the fire. An Atlas floor lamp lights the reading corner.
Works ran over a summer shutdown. The panelling was made in our workshop, in sections. Install took 3 weeks. The client returned to a finished floor. He has not moved his desk since.
